An Attractive Small Town

It is with great pleasure we welcome you to Namsos - the town at the mouth of the Namsen, one of Norways famous salmon rivers.

Namsos is the urban centre of Namdalen, a Norway in miniature stretching from the open seas to the mountains, set in a beautiful and varied countryside. Outdoor people will find virtually everything they need on their doorsteps: idyllic lakes for angling, exciting sports fishing in the Namsen - also called the Queen of Rivers - and fjords with sheltered coves and narrow sounds.

Namsos also has a rich variety of cultural activities in the fields of song, music and dancing. In 1996, Namsos was selected as Norways best municipality in the field of music and culture. Namsos has made a special name for itself in music with such well-known Norwegian entertainers as Åge Aleksandersen, Terje Tysland and D.D.E. Other cultural gems worth mentioning are the Namdal Museum with its hospital museum, the cultural centre with its modern library facilities, Spillum Steam Sawmill and Planing Mill (The Norwegian Timber Mill Museum) and the North Trøndelag County Art Gallery.

Namsos is today a bustling centre of trade and culture, but first and foremost it is a small town in the best sense of the term. It provides a secure environment in which to bring up children and young people; housing is reasonable and good, and there are plenty of public facilities on offer, such as nursery schools, education, health and cultural events.
